The Adult Mental Health Peer Specialist will support the Rural A.C.T. team staff by providing requested transportation, direct support services and indirect support services in compliance with DSHS/TAC requirements to persons with severe and persistent mental illness. The Peer Specialist assists individuals with recovery and living in the communityr by sharing personal experiences in dealing with mental illness. Utilizing his/her unique recovery experience, the peer specialist will teach and provide an example of the value of recovery and foster positive relationships with supports resources. Peer specialists model effective coping techniques, self-help strategies abd efficient use of community resources and and natural supports.
Must successfully complete DSHS Peer Specialist training offered through "Via Hope"; knowledge of mental illness, diagnosis and symptoms, treatment options, medications and side effects and services available. Knowledge and understanding of the community mental health system. Knowledge of community resources ability to communicate well with others. Ability to maintain training schedule. Computer literate. Must hav a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable under the Center's insurnace. Must have HS diploma or GED.
Must have at least one cumulative year of receiving mental health services for treatment of severe and persisten mental illness.
The Center's application for employment must be completed and submitted to the HR departmentvin order to be considered for the position.
